A Short Reflection On Amal Totkay

Before joining Amal fellowship I was somewhat unaware of the concept of a fixed mindset and growth mindset. In our online learning course I studied this topic in detail while watching reflection videos and listening to TED Talks of some most amazing personalities. So, a growth mindset revolves around the belief that we can improve our intelligence, ability and performance. The opposite, a fixed mindset, refers to the belief that a person’s talents are set in stone.

A fixed mindset always stems from fear. It might be a fear of failure, a fear of looking stupid, or a fear of being judged etc. However when we develop a growth mindset then welcome this fear behind a fixed mindset as you can change your mind about your beliefs. Learn from your failure in the past and set new goals. Here is a well known quote of Albert Einstein:

So, developing a growth mindset helps embracing changes in me. Now there are many tips which we need to implement in order to develop a growth mindset. And AMAL named these tips as #AmalTotkay, name is quite interesting while reading:-p. So, let’s write a short reflection on the efficacy of Amal Totkay and their implications for personal and professional growth.

These Amal Totkay are five in number and my takeaways from each of them are given below:

  1. Self-talk: I can do it. I’m strong. I’ve got this. These all are the kinds of encouraging words that sometimes I speak for myself after joining fellowship. Amal is giving me a lot of confidence by knowing myself as known as #Khudi. Positive self-talk helped me a lot to feel confident, improved my coordination and enhanced my focus.

2. Get out of your comfort zone: Moving out of your comfort zone requires that you develop new skills. One of the many benefits you’ll experience is that you’ll be stepping away from the “limited set of behaviors’’ and start to develop your ability and expertise in new areas. Before joining Amal fellowship I was also in my comfort zone and there were fears in my mind. But I took initiative as #juststart and accept those challenges.

3. Create new habits: Habits are the small decisions that we make and actions we perform every day. It’s important to build good habits because these are our subconscious actions, emotions and behaviors.

4. Asking people for help/feedback: Asking for feedback can be a bit difficult, because we’re opening ourselves up to possible criticism. However, we can overcome this fear by adjusting our mindset. We should remember that no one is perfect — all of us make mistakes, and there’s always room for improvement. To improve our skills and performance and grow professionally, it’s essential that we get feedback on our work.

5. Fake it till you make it: The last important tip is also very important. While we’re all green at some point in our careers or life, there’s something to be said for faking it till you make it. Imitating knowledge, experience, confidence can actually change your real-life behavior in a positive way. Pretend you know more than you do, and eventually you will.

These all above mentioned five tips are really important, amazing and helpful for us when we come into our professional life. Applying these #Amaltotkay will lead to a growth mindset in a short period of time. I’m trying my best to follow these valuable tips by joining Amal Fellowship in order to boost my confidence level and communication skills.
